Scallops
How does a seahorse travel? ππ It scallops!
Ok, now that we've gotten out to a solidly eye-rolling start, let's glance for a moment longer at the humble scallop, π which actually has an intriguing history.
One old story goes that during an oceanside wedding, the bride was on horseback and the horse got spooked by a passing ship and bolted into the ocean with the bride still in the saddle.π΄π§πΌββοΈ Eventually, the bride and horse emerged from the water covered in scallop shells.π
This old tale seems to relate directly to the ancient story of the goddess π Aphrodite, who was born from the sea foam (yep, thatβs a pretty explicit sexual reference) and who emerged at the shores of Cyprus on a scallopβs shell. You may also think of her Roman counterpart Venus, and of Sandro Botticelli's Birth of Venus, painted in the 1480s. π¨π
Do you like to eat scallops? How will you cook them next? π½
