Just be Yourself

“Never try to impress anyone. Just be yourself. That's impressive enough.”

These words were written to me in an email by one of my mentors and dearest friends, John de Cuevas, and now I want to share them with you. I just learned that John passed away at 88, and with this news I am having a swirl of emotions as complex, beautiful, and vast as this Big Sur sunset.

And of course, in losing anyone you care deeply for... primarily, I just miss him. But his eloquent words of wisdom and support will continue to echo within me. * Be yourself. That’s impressive enough, just like this extra-impressive sunset. It’s definitely not trying.*
