Witchy Tomatoes
Holding onto the summer weather like...
The classic summer tomato has a very fall-worthy twist in its story. Have you heard of the wolf peach?
The term wolf peach comes to us from the German “wolfpfirsich”, which referred to the tomato’s round shape, reminiscent of a peach, while the “wolf” modifier comes from the Germanic folk belief that werewolves could be called up using other members of the Solanaceae family, such as nightshade and wolfsbane. Many members of this plant family are indeed poisonous or hallucinogenic—or both.
So hold onto your tomatoes for the fall, my cosmonaut friends. You may need them for your werewolf and witch costumes.
