Magical Stonefruit
Stonefruit Burrata Picnic.
This is the summeriest dish, and the best ode to this season that I can think of. And have you heard of Momotaro, a hero in Japanese folklore, who said to have been sent from heaven to Earth inside a giant peach?! The peach was floating down a river and was picked up by an old woman. In some versions of the myth, the old woman and her husband eat pieces of the peach and become younger.
Stone fruits also remind me of that old Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner skit about the “2000 year-old man”, a classic in my family growing up! Brooks impersonates an ancient man who has seen 2000 years in this earth with a lot of dry humor. His favorite food...”
“Fruit kept me going for 140 years once when I was on a very strict diet. Mainly nectarines. I love that fruit. It's half a peach, half a plum. It's a helluva fruit, it's not too cold, not too hot. Just nice. Even a rotten one is good. That's how much I love 'em. I'd rather eat a rotten nectarine than a fine plum, what do you think of that?”
So either way, the lesson is to eat some stone fruit and stay young at heart!
