Hoof and Wing
These are the hands of Leigh Gaymon-Jones (on IG: @hoofandawing). Leigh is a people-centered creative — a mover, maker, educator, and grower. For over a decade, Leigh has worked in sustainable food systems, and is committed to ecology and land-based movements.
This shot was taken way back in 2016 during the potato harvest at @ucsccasfs. I (Liz Birnbaum, Curated Feast founder) documented three seasons for the CDFA/@cal_foodag on this land. I’ve photographed farmers from coast to coast, but moments like this stand out not only because was I able to document Leigh while she was in her element, but also because I was able to get to know her and hear some of her insights on life and agriculture.
In Leigh’s own words:
“Self-understanding, reverence for life, and creativity collide and incite a fire that may free us all.
We jump into big ideas. We commit to rigor. We embrace beauty. We ground with laughter. We learn. We teach. We grow.
We build a better world through training and practice. We build a thriving world through commitment to ourselves, to each other and to the earth.”
