Adventure + Mis-Adventure
“Reality is only a Rorschach ink-blot, you know.’” – Alan Watts
It‘s what we perceive that makes the difference, right? Like when I see this photo, I see myself fulfilling a dream, having the bravery to travel solo (my first solo international trip!), and also trusting my gut when I saw this turn just off the main highway. And maybe this photo conveys all those things, in some sense; freedom and an open road are pretty synonymous, aren’t they?
But I also see something that you couldn’t possibly see, in this one. I see a bi-plane just over to the right, three seconds from flying into the frame. I see something I both hilariously and annoyingly missed because I was focused on something else. And that doesn’t have to be bad, but it sure makes for a nice mini life lesson.
So contrast to the silence and presence I expressed in my last photo (of the dahlia), for this one I see both adventure and mis-adventure, with a dash of humility... rolled right into one tidy image.
