Foray into Grains

It’s getting toasty.

In long history of civilization, we can always turn to grains to explain the state of things. Starches form the basis of civilization itself.

This photo shows Ezekiel toast, which derives its recipe from a biblical passage calling to “take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet and spelt, put them in one vessel and make them into bread for yourself”.

Around and below the toast is Kernza, the perennial grass that stems from Wes Jackson’s vision for a natural system approach to agricultural production. The #Ezekiel toast is blended with legumes, and interestingly, the #Kernza is grown intercropped with legumes.

Also, I gathered all these ingredients in a strange kind of foraging foray—on the Natural Products Expo floor last week! I was among nearly 100K people. If only our ancestors could see this kind of foraging as a result of their farming and seed selection.
