"When a storyteller dies, a library burns." So goes the saying in Marrakech.

The Moroccan tradition of hikayat, or storytelling dates back thousands of years. Some stories are only passed orally, while others are captured and written down.
.
And of course, each spice also has a story to tell. The story of spices spans language, geography, and political unrest. Each spice can tell so many incredible global stories... you can ask who grew and processed the spice in front of you today, and you can ask the deeper question of what are this spice's wild ancestors, the poems written about it, and the other meals it made memorable. This is the chief muse for The Curated Feast.
